McClendon Shines in 9-0 Victory at Evangel

Taryn McClendon scored 3 goals and assisted on 3 others as MNU beat first-year program Evangel 9-0 on Saturday.

Forward Denise Dantzler got her first start after struggling with an injury in previous weeks and put two goals away in the opening 20 minutes of the game. Both of Dantzler's goals came off assists from forward Taryn McClendon. Kelli Reid would find Hannah Benedict on top of the box for MNU's third goal in the 25th minute of play. Benedict beat an Evangel defender before tucking the ball away in the corner of the net.

MNU came out strong in the second half, notching 4 goals in the first 15 minutes of the half. The first came through Shelbi Durfee who found Breanna Fitzgerald, Fitzgerald powered the ball past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. Hannah Benedict and Taryn McClendon would combine for the next two goals, each assisting each other for their respective goals. McClendon found her second of the game when a Kelli Reid cross found the head of Allie Harvey who knocked the ball down for forward McClendon to score.

Just 15 minutes later, McClendon would find her third goal to seal off her impressive performance. Midfielder Amanda Hiebert found the forward to complete McClendon's hat trick. In the last minute of play, forward Allie Harvey would put in MNU's 9th goal of the game. Midfielder Krista Joersz found the forward who placed the ball past the Evangel goalkeeper.
