Pioneers Fall at Home

MNU dropped their second game of conference play Wednesday afternoon, 3-0 to Baker University.

MNU and Baker both came out strong, looking to find a place at the top of the Heart of America Conference. The first half saw most of the possession fall to the feet of the Pioneers, but they were unable to find the back of the net.

Baker broke the deadlock first in the 30th minute off of a failed attempt to clear a corner kick by the Pioneers.

MNU would go into the half down 1-0, looking to get back into the game. However, Baker University stopped any hope of a comeback, just 10 minutes into the second half. A Wildcat midfielder broke through the Pioneer backline and slotted a ball past goalkeeper Anesa Curic.

MNU sent numbers forward at the end of the second half looking to find a goal, but it would end up costing them in the end. The Pioneers gave up a third goal with only 2 minutes left to play, leaving Baker with the 3-0 lead.

The Pioneers would finish tied on shots with baker at 14, however the Wildcats put 8 of those shots on target compared to the Pioneers' 2. Curic finished with 5 saves.

Head Coach Skelly Kellar on the loss, "We need to continue to put the ball on the ground and play our game. Baker was very effective at taking us out of our game. They bring a very physical presence that we weren't able to match. We had moments where we were very good, but we need to continue to put complete games together."

MNU will look to bounce back as they wrap up conference play this weekend against Central Methodist University at home on Senior Day at 1:00.
