Pioneers Fall at #4 Baker

The Pioneers played right with one of the top teams in the country in the first half, but managed just 5 points in the second half as #4 Baker pulled away to win 38-19. The Wildcats got on the board first with an early first-quarter touchdown. MNU answered with a 7-play 51-yard drive capped off by a short Javon Taylor touchdown run to tie the game. Baker took the lead with a field goal, but Derek Pollox intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown to give the Pioneers a 14-10 lead. When Baker missed a short field goal with 7 minutes left in the half, MNU had the momentum. But the Pioneers were forced to punt on their next two possessions, and a late Baker touchdown gave the Wildcats a 17-14 lead at halftime.

Baker scored quickly to open the second half, but MNU's Jason Keobounheung picked off a pass and set up MNU in the red zone. The Pioneers got down to the 1-yard line but had to settle for a short field goal, and Baker scored 14 unanswered to take a 38-17 lead in the fourth. MNU was stopped at the goal line with 5 minutes remaining, but blocked a punt on the ensuing drive for a safety. The Pioneers could get no closer, and the final was 38-19.

MNU is 3-5 (1-1 Heart South). The next game is Saturday at home vs. Avila (1-7, 0-2) at 1:00.
