MNU Holds Off Baker

The Pioneers completed a season sweep of Baker with a 60-53 victory in Baldwin City on Thursday. MNU jumped all over the Wildcats in the first 10 minutes, opening up a 23-6 lead. In the final 2 minutes of the half, Baker was able to use a 6-0 run to get the deficit down to 10. In the opening minutes of the second half, MNU again started well and used a 7-1 run to go back up by 17. But the Wildcats fought back again, using an 11-2 run to get within 3. In the final minutes, Baker had several chances to tie or take the lead, but the MNU defense held firm. Free throws at the end increased the lead to multiple possessions, and the Pioneers held on.

Kyleesha Weston had 17 points and 7 rebounds, both team highs. Daria Sprew shot 7-13 for 16 points. Tristan Wicks added 10 points and 3 blocks. And Martyna Kudziela had 9 points and 7 rebounds.

MNU is 16-5 (9-1 HAAC). The next game is Saturday at home vs. Culver-Stockton (15-5, 7-3) at 2:00.
