Jon Lewis picked up career victory number 100 in just his 121st game in MNU's 79-76 win over Culver-Stockton on Saturday. The first half was tight throughout until MNU used an 8-0 run to take a 7-point lead. The lead was as high as 9 with 4 minutes left, but Culver closed the half on a 10-3 run to trim the lead to 2. The second half was close as neither team could pull away, and Culver took a 1-point lead with 9 minutes left. MNU clamped down on defense and held Culver scoreless over the next 3 minutes. The 11-0 run by the Pioneers gave them a lead they would not relinquish, but Culver didn't go down easily. In the final minute, Culver whittled the lead down to 1, but
Megan Balcom hit a pair of free throws in the final seconds to go back up by 3. Culver's desperation heave at the buzzer went begging, and MNU escaped with their 10th HAAC win.
Daria Sprew shot 8-16 for 22 points and 6 rebounds.
Bailey Rinehart recorded a season-high 15 points and 3 steals.
Jasmine Webb and
Kyleesha Weston had 11 points apiece. And
Megan Balcom had 9 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals.
MNU is 16-5 (10-1 HAAC). The next game is Saturday at Missouri Valley (11-9, 7-4) at 2:00.
