MNU's 20-game win streak over Avila was snapped in a 76-72 loss on Thursday. Dating back to the 04-05 season, 19 regular-season wins plus 1 HAAC tourney victory proved the Pioneer dominance over the Eagles, but a late run gave Avila the win. MNU took an 8-point lead in the first half after a flurry of action, including 2 blocked shots and a 4-point possession for MNU, but Avila fought back to trail by 3 at halftime. Avila tied the game early in the second half and a back-and-forth battle ensued. The Pioneers finally gained some distance with a 9-1 run, but the Eagles responded with a 13-2 run over the next 4 minutes to take a 5-point lead with 2 minutes left. In the closing minutes Avila hit their free throws and the Pioneers couldn't convert on offense for their 7th straight loss.Nate Launius had 21 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Jordan Whelan put up 17 points off the bench.
