#11 MNU and #6 Hastings Play to a Draw

Box Score The weather had the feel of early November as the Pioneers welcomed #6 ranked Hastings College to Pioneer Field for the first time. The two schools have not played before and the #11 vs. #6 matchup promised to entertain. It did not disappoint. After 110 minutes and 2 overtimes the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

MNU had a majority of the possession throughout the game but it was the Broncos who struck first. In the 36th minute, a miscleared ball was immediately played into the area. Jake Ramsey took the pass, made a nice cutback move and finished the ball into the upper corner. A well taken goal for Hastings gave them a 1-0 lead. MNU had chances but was unable to get the equalizer in the first half.

The Pioneers came out strong in the 2nd half. They had numerous chances around the area but couldn't get the final pass or finish quite right. MNU did a good job of continuing to put pressure on the Hastings defenders and goalkeeper. In the 67th minute the equalizer finally came. After a nice sequence of passes, Eddie Morales played the ball to Jelani Jillo just outside the box. He took one touch and fired the ball into the side netting. It was the first goal allowed by Hastings this season. Regulation ended with the score tied 1-1.

In the overtime periods each team had one very good opportunity to score the golden goal. First for MNU, Aurelien Norest took a cross from Daniel Clifton but Alex Guyer for Hastings would make the save. Very shortly after, Ramsey was one on one with MNU goalkeeper, Yann Passet. Passet was able to make the save to preserve the draw, but he was injured on the play and was replaced by Juan Pablo Riesco for the 2nd overtime period. Each team pressed for the decider but the game came to a close.

For the game MNU outshot Hastings 19-8, with SOG being 5-2. Guyer for the Broncos was credited with 4 saves. Passet had 1 save. Hastings runs their record to 4-0-1. MNU is now 4-1-1. The Pioneers will have the week off before heading to Oklahoma City University on September 20.
