Pioneers Score Late to Beat Wildcats

Box Score
Highlights
MNU scored an unearned run in each of the final 2 innings to beat Culver-Stockton 2-1 in the first round of the HAAC Tournament on Thursday. The game seemed to be a carbon copy of MNU's 1-0 loss last Friday at Culver as the Wildcats recorded just 2 hits, but one of them was a solo homer and MNU couldn't score. Trailing 1-0 in the sixth, the Pioneers loaded the bases with a walk, infield single, and an error. With 2 outs, Jadalynn Cirillo worked a walk to tie the game, and the Pioneers finally scored against Wilcat starter Hannah Washburn. In the bottom of the seventh with 1 out, Vanessa Arandules reached on a 2-base error. With 2 outs, another error brought her home and MNU escaped with the victory. Taylor Pearcy allowed 1 hit and struck out a career-high 8 in 5 innings for a no decision, Megan Schwindler picked up the win in relief, and Lynsey Keith (2-3, BB) and Jadalynn Cirillo (2-2, RBI, BB) had multi-hit games.

No. 2 seed MNU is 24-11. The next game is Friday in Overland Park vs. 6-seed Peru State (30-22) at 11:00 AM. The loser plays again at 1:00. The winner plays again at 3:00.
