W 7-0 | MNU closed the regular season with a double header sweep at Peru State which clinched the 2-seed in next week's conference tournament. In Game 1, MNU scored 3 in the top of the first when
Vanessa Arandules led off with a single and
Alexis Pacheco and
Lynsey Keith reached base behind her.
Chelsey Streibich followed with a 2-run double, and the Pioneers ended the inning leading 3-0. Peru State fought back in the second inning with a 2-run homer and a solo shot to tie the game, and the score remained 3-3 until the top of the fifth.
Courtney Gall led off with a single, and her teammates followed suit. Pacheco, Keith, Streibich,
Hayley Gately, and
Jadalynn Cirillo also singled to bring home 4 runs and give MNU a 7-3 lead.
Megan Schwindler struck out 6 in 5 innings of relief for the win, and Pacheco (2-4, 2 R, SB), Keith (2-3, 2 R, RBI, HBP, SB), Streibich (2-3, R, 2B, 3 RBI, BB, SB), and
Courtney Gall (2-4, R, 2B) led the offense.
In Game 2, Schwindler dominated with a 4-hit complete game shutout, and the offense showed up again.
Vanessa Arandules homered in the third to give MNU a 2-0 lead, and
Hayley Gately's solo shot in the fourth increased the advantage.
Jenna Keen nailed a 2-run homer in the sixth as part of a 3-run inning, and MNU won 7-0. Schwindler struck out 8 in her 16th victory of the season, and Arandules (2-4, R, HR, RBI), Gately (2-4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI), and Gall (2-3, 2 R, 2B) had multi-hit games.
MNU is 23-11 (14-4 HAAC). The next game is the first round of the HAAC tournament on Thursday at the Blue Valley Complex in Overland Park. Time and opponent to be determined.
