MNU Splits at #18 CMU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Pioneers used a huge comeback in Game 2 to salvage a split at HAAC-leader and #18-ranked Central Methodist on Tuesday. In Game 1, MNU scored 4 runs on 10 hits vs. defending HAAC Pitcher of the Year and 3-time All-America honoree Aubrey Utley, but the Eagle bats could not be silenced and the Pioneers fell 7-4. Lynsey Keith hit a 3-run homer and Chelsey Streibich (2-3, 2B), Hayley Gately (2-3, 2 R), and Stephanie Valenzuela (3-3, R) had multi-hit games.

In Game 2, CMU hit a 2-run homer in the first inning to jump in front, and put up 4 more in the fifth to take a 6-1 lead. Chelsey Streibich got MNU started in the sixth with a 2-run homer, and 2 singles and a walk loaded the bases with 1 out. Kaity Wills fought off several 2-strike pitches before driving a 2-run single to center to get MNU within 1. CMU brought Utley in to relieve, and Hayley Gately drilled a 2-run double down the right field line to give MNU a 7-6 lead. Taylor Pearcy worked a perfect sixth then worked out of trouble in the seventh for her 3rd victory and 1st complete game of the season, and Wills (1-4, R, 2 RBI), Gately (1-4, 2B, 2 RBI), Vanessa Arandules (1-3, 2 R, 2B), Streibich (1-2, R, HR, 2 RBI), and Alexis Pacheco (2-3, R) led the offense.

MNU is 10-7 (3-2 HAAC). The next double header is Thursday at home vs. HAAC-leader Baker at 5:00. This is MNU's 3rd straight HAAC-leading opponent (Evangel, CMU, & Baker are all 5-1).
