Box Score 2 MNU scored 6 runs in both games and came away with a split vs. HAAC-leader Evangel on Saturday. In Game 1, Evangel rallied for 2 runs on 3 hits to grab an early lead, but MNU cut the deficit in half with a
Lynsey Keith RBI groundout in the third. In the bottom of the fourth, MNU loaded the bases with 1 out when pinch hitter Hayley Gatley singled home the tying run. The Pioneers broke it up in the fifth when Keith homered center to lead off, and
Katie Williams drilled a 2-run shot to the same spot to put MNU up 5-2.
Courtney Gall's RBI groundout gave the Pioneers a 4-run lead, and
Megan Schwindler closed out her start for the victory. Schwindler struck out 7 for her 6th victory, and
Lynsey Keith (3-4, R, HR, RBI) and
Katie Williams (2-3, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, HBP) led the offense.
In Game 2,
Alexis Pacheco's squeeze bunt put MNU up 1-0 in the first inning, but Evangel tied it with a homer in the second and took the lead with a run in the third. The Crusaders broke it open in the fourth when 4 hits and 2 MNU errors led to 4 runs. In the bottom of the seventh, MNU trailed 9-2 but tried to make a comeback. The Pioneers loaded the bases with 2 outs and a run in when
Kaity Wills knocked one off the fence for a 3-run double. A popout ended the threat, however, and MNU fell 9-6. Wills (4-5, R, 2B, 3 RBI),
Katie Williams (2-4, R),
Chelsey Streibich (2-4, R), and
Stephanie Valenzuela (2-4, 2 R) had multi-hit games.
The Pioneers are 9-6 (2-1 HAAC). The next double headers is Tuesday at #18 Central Methodist (21-4, 4-0) on Tuesday at 3:00.
