MNU went to Oklahoma City and competed well against the #2 team in the country on Thursday. In Game 1, the Pioneers jumped out with a 3-run first inning thanks to a 2-run single from
Vanessa Arandules and a run-scoring wild pitch. Oklahoma City answered, however, with 2 runs in the bottom of the first and 7 more in the second.
Chelsey Streibich's 2-run double gave MNU 5 runs, but the Stars' offense was too much and MNU fell 11-6. Streibich (2-3, R, 2B, 2 RBI, BB) and Aradules (2-4, 2 RBI) had 2 hits for MNU.
In Game 2, Oklahoma City put up 3 in the first to take the lead, but
Lynsey Keith's solo homer sparked MNU to score single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to tie the game. The Stars rallied for 2 in the sixth to retake the lead, and an MNU rally in the seventh came up just short as OCU won 5-4. Keith (1-3, R, HR, 2 RBI, SF),
Lorena Martinez (1-1, 2 R, BB), and Arandules (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI) led the offense.
MNU is 7-5 (0-0 HAAC). The next game starts HAAC play at Peru State (15-12, 0-2) on Saturday at 2:00.
