Pioneers Drop Opener

The Pioneers started fast, but Ottawa turned the tables and ran away with an 84-69 victory on Tuesday in the season opener for both teams. After a 3-pointer from Nate Launius put MNU up 31-18 with 8 minutes left in the half, Ottawa called a timeout and dominated the rest of the game. The Braves ended the first half with a 23-9 burst to take a 1-point lead into the locker room.

MNU hit the first 2 shots in the second half to take a 3-point lead, but a 9-0 run by Ottawa gave them a lead they would not relinquish. With 8 minutes remaining, the lead reached double digits and stayed there until the final horn.

Nate Launius led MNU with 19 points and 5 assists. Chris Parker was 6-12 off the bench for 14 points. Just Randall added 11 points. Payne Andrus had 5 assists. And O'Shai Clark hauled in a team-high 6 rebounds.

MNU is 0-1. The next game is Thursday at home vs. College of the Ozarks (0-1) at 8:00.
