The #2 MNU Men's Soccer team lost Saturday to to #17 Missouri Valley College by a 3-0 score. The game was for the conference lead and the Pioneers let a great opportunity slip away.Â
The score at halftime was 0-0. Each team had few good opportunities on goal, but most of the play was in the midfield. In the second half, Missouri Valley began to take control of the game. Their possession was wearing the Pioneer defense down and the counter attack opportunities for MNU were few and far between. The Vikings were not creating many chances on goal but as the half wore on the number of corner kicks and set pieces began to mount. The opening goal finally did come by way of a penalty kick. In the 75th minute, a Missouri Valley player was fouled in the box. Raul Beneit stepped up and scored the penalty kick to make the score 1-0. MNU began to press for the equalizer and in the 82nd minute, the Vikings got a breakaway and dribbled past the goalkeeper to extend the lead. The final goal came just 4 minutes later on a counter attack to make the score 3-0.
For the game, MVC outshot MNU 13-6, with SOG being 6-2. MVC's goalkeeper was credited with 2 saves.
