MNU Beats Avila

MNU got back on the winning track this afternoon with a 3-0 win over Avila University. The Pioneers remained unbeaten on the road with the victory. MNU solidified at least a 2nd place finish in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

MNU controlled the match from start to finish. Avila has a big field that suited the Pioneers possession style. Coming off of the loss to Missouri Valley you could see right away that the guys were looking for a better performance.  In the 15th minute of the first half, Cameron Wallace scored to make the score 1-0. Eddie Morales played a ball to the back post where Eduardo Heringer headed the ball back across the box. Wallace was there to tap home from close range. In the 28th minute, Morales extended the lead. He took a pass from Felipe Abreu and beat the keeper to the near post. The second half was mostly a game of 50/50 challenges and there were many fouls called. Both of these factors served to break any rhythm that either team attempted to create.  In the 85th minute, Luke Fischer scored his first collegiate goal. Daniel Clifton beat his defender and slid a nice pass across the box where Fisher was there to finish from about 8 yards out.

For the game, MNU outshot Avila 11-6, with SOG being 8-5. Both goalkeepers were credited with 5 saves. Yann Passet earned the shutout for MNU. Avila is now 8-7 (1-4-1) on the year. MNU moves its record to 11-2-2 (4-1-1 HAAC). The final regular season game for the Pioneers is Senior Day on Saturday at home vs. Benedictine College (7-7-1, 3-3) at 3:00. We will honor seniors: Aurelien Norest, Jeremie Koffi, Niklas Larsson, Jelani Jillo, and Atanas Karagyaurov. Come out and support the guys as they wrap up the regular season.
