The Pioneer offense dominated Culver-Stockton in a double header sweep on Saturday. In Game 1, the Pioneers jumped out early with 3 runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead.
Jen Polivka's RBI double extended the lead in the fourth, and RBIs from Drika Asano and Polivka put MNU up 6-0 in the fifth.
Katie Williams struck out 8 while scattering 4 hits in a complete game shutout. And
Stephanie Valenzuela (1-2, 2 R, BB, SB), Drika Asano (3-3, 3 R, 2B, RBI, SB), and
Jen Polivka (2-2, 2B, 3 RBI, Sac) led the offense.
In Game 2, Culver started the scoring with a solo homer in the first, but the Pioneers answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning to take a lead they would not relinquish.
Tianna George drove home 2 with a bases-loaded double to put MNU up 4-1 in the third, and the Pioneers blew it open with 4 runs in the fifth (highlighted by homers from Polivka and George) to take a 9-3 lead. With MNU leading 10-4 in the bottom of the sixth,
Lynsey Keith nailed a 3-run homer to end the game 13-4 via the mercy rule and complete the sweep.
Taylor Pearcy picked up the win in relief. And
