Pioneers Split at Baker

The Pioneers suffered a tough loss in Game 1, but dominated Game 2 to salvage a split at Baker on Friday. In Game 1, MNU rallied for 2 runs in the top of the third with RBIs from Drika Asano and Katie Williams. Taylor Pearcy held Baker scoreless until the bottom of the seventh. With MNU leading 2-0, Baker reached on an error and scored a run with 2 outs. After a single and a walk, Baker's Alyse Menghini doubled to deep right center, bringing home both runners and winning the game. Pearcy struck out 6 in the tough loss, and Vanessa Arandules (2-3, R, SB, Sac), Chelsey Streibich (2-3), and Tara Wolf (3-3, R, 2B) had multi-hit games for MNU.

In Game 2, the Pioneers scored in every inning en route to a 13-4 victory. 1 in the first, 3 in the second, 1 in each of the next 3 innings, 3 in the sixth, and 3 in the seventh. Taylor Pearcy struck out 5 in the complete-game victory. And Stephanie Valenzuela (2-5, 2 R), Drika Asano (3-4, 3 R ,2B, HR, 2 RBI, BB), Lynsey Keith (3-3, 2 R, 2B, HR, 4 RBI, 2 HBP), and Tianna George (2-4, 2 R HR, 2 RBI, BB) had big games at the plate.

The Pioneers are 17-11 (5-3 HAAC). The next game is a double header at Missouri Valley (10-8, 4-2) on Saturday at 1:00.
