Pioneers Sweep Avila

Highlights | The Pioneers started the conference season with a double header sweep at Avila on Wednesday. In Game 1, MNU jumped on top in the first inning when an Avila error led to 2 runs. The Pioneers led 3-0 in the third when Avila's 2-out 2-run double cut the MNU lead to 1. In the bottom of the fifth, Avila took advantage of 3 MNU errors to plate 2 runs and take a 4-3 lead. The Pioneers answered in the sixth when Tara Wolf led off with a triple and scored on a groundout to tie the game. The score remained tied until the 10th when the Pioneers scored 10 in the top of the inning. Avila scored a single run in the bottom of the inning, but MNU held on and won 6-5.

Kayla Harris got the win in relief. And Adriana Asano (2-4, R, RBI, BB, HBP) and Vanessa Arandules (2-6, 3 RBI) had 2 hits apiece.

In Game 2, the Pioneers led 7-0 after 2 innings and never looked back. Avila rallied for 3 in the second and single runs in the fourth and fifth, but the Pioneers kept tacking on and won 12-5. Taylor Pearcy scattered 4 hits in 5 innings of relief for the victory. And Lynsey Keith (1-2, R, HR, 2 RBI, BB), Vanessa Aradules (3-4, 4 R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI), Tianna George (3-3, 2 R, 2B, HR, 4 RBI, SF), Jen Polivka (2-4, R, RBI, SB), and Tara Wolf (2-3, R, 2B, BB) led the offense.

MNU is 12-8 (2-0 HAAC). The next game is a double header on Saturday at Benedictine (13-9, 0-0) at noon.
