Pioneers Split at OBU

The Pioneers split a double header at Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday. MNU only managed 3 hits in the first game and OBU scored 2 in each of the first 2 innings to build a 4-0 lead. The Pioneers never got anything going and fell by the same score.

In Game 2, MNU got on the board early when Tianna George's 2-out RBI double brought home Stephanie Valenzuela. George later scored on an error and the Pioneers led 2-0. OBU tied the game in the bottom of the second, then took a 2-run lead in the fourth when a homer followed an MNU error. In the top of the fifth, Tianna George drilled a 3-run homer and Katie Williams followed with a 2-run homer to give the Pioneers a 7-4 lead. OBU closed the gap with a 2-run homer in the sixth, but Kayla Harris allowed no further damage and MNU left with a 7-6 victory.

Harris struck out 3 in 5.1 innings of relief for the win. And Vanessa Arandules (2-4, R, 2B), Tianna George (2-4, 2 R, 2B, HR, 4 RBI), Jen Polivka (2-4, R, SB), Katie Williams (2-3, R, HR, 2 RBI, BB), and Chelsey Streibich (2-4, 2B, SB, Sac) had 2 hits apiece.

MNU is 9-5. The next game is a double header on Friday at #4 Oklahoma City (18-4) at 2:00.
