Pioneers Score Quickly to Beat Avila

Box Score The Pioneers made quick work of Avila University this afternoon at Pioneer Field. In the opening 15 minutes, the Pioneers scored 3 unanswered goals to put the game away. The final score was 4-0. For the game MNU outshot Avila 16-1. Chris Eriksson earned his 9th shutout of the year without registering a save.

Aurelien Norest got MNU on the board first with a goal in the 1st minute of play. Lippi Souza slotted a ball across the box and Norest beat the keeper from close range. In the 12th minute Niklas Larsson finished off a nice sequence for the 2nd goal. Matias Fernandez played a ball into Lucas Machado,  who one-timed the ball across the box. Larsson was able to beat the keeper again from close range. Just 2 minutes later Norest scored his 2nd from an Eddie Morales corner kick and took a 3-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, MNU was in control of the game, but they did not create many good chances. Avila's goalkeeper did not actually register a save in the second half even though MNU had 8 shots.  One of those shots found the back of the net in emphatic style though. Rodrigo Rivas finished off a great pass from Fernandez in the 80th minute to seal the game.

#15 MNU moves their record to 12-3-2 (4-1-1 HAAC) and the final regular season game will determine who wins the regular season conference title. The Pioneers will travel to #4 Benedictine (5-0-1 HAAC) on Saturday at 7:30.
