Pioneers Defeat John Brown with Remmich's Goal

MSOC vs. John Brown | W 1-0 | Stats

The 8th-ranked Pioneers held on for a 1-0 victory Tuesday afternoon against John Brown University. With the win MNU remains unbeaten on the season, but this win wasn't a sure thing until the last whistle. JBU fought hard for the tying goal but MNU's backline of Tyler Hageman, Aurelien Norest, Alvaro Beltran, and Taylor Esparza did their job along with goalkeeper Chris Eriksson to preserve the lead and earn the shutout.

This game was again a tale of two halves. MNU came out ready to play and in just the 14th minute Trent Remmich scored a goal off of an assist by Norest. At this point it felt like MNU would go on to put a few more away but they spurned 3 more great chances in the first half. The stats in the first half revealed MNU's dominance with a 7-1 advantage in shots. The second half was a different story.

JBU came out with great intensity and the Pioneers did not respond with the same level of performance that saw them take control of the 1st half. Coach Wardlaw stated, "We were very good for about 15 minutes in the first half but the second half revealed our lack of maturity in dealing with JBU's pressure. I give them a ton of credit for this. JBU never quit and they made us earn everything we got in the second half." Neither team created much around the box and the game was played mostly in the midfield. The shot count being 7-7 in the half showed the evenness of the play.

JBU falls to 3-2 on the year. MNU goes to 5-0-3. Next up is #15 Kansas Wesleyan University. Game time is slotted for 5:00pm on Thursday at Pioneer Field.  Come out and support the boys as they take on another Top 25 opponent.
