Softball Swept at CMU

The Pioneers were able to score four runs in a double header against one of the top pitchers in the conference, but failed to pick up a victory at Central Methodist on Friday.

Box and Play by Play In Game 1, CMU starter Aubrey Utley (and defending HAAC Pitcher of the Year) shut down the Pioneers while the Eagles built a 6-0 lead in the third inning. MNU picked up a run in the fourth and another in the fifth, but CMU kept adding on and won 10-2 after the fifth inning via the 8-run rule. Janessa Swinney (2-3), Lynsey Keith (1-2, RBI, SF), and Brittany Williams (1-2, RBI) led the offense.

Box and Play by Play Game 2 was scoreless until CMU exploded in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Eagles rallied for 5 runs on 5 hits to put the Pioneers in a huge hole. MNU answered with a single run in the top of the fifth, and Adriana Asano drilled a solo shot in the seventh, but the Pioneers fell 5-2. Asano (2-3, 2 R, HR, RBI) and Jadalynn Cirillo (1-2, RBI) knocked in the Pioneer runs.

The Pioneers are 14-11 (5-5 HAAC). The next game is a double header at home vs. Baker (16-9, 6-2) on Tuesday at 5:00.
