Pioneers Swept at William Woods

Game 1 Box The Pioneers ran into some tough pitching and some tough weather in a sweep at the hands of William Woods on Saturday. In Game 1, WWU's MacKenzie Bowden tossed a no-hitter while walking 2 and striking out 12 in 6 innings. The Owls put a run on the board in the 3rd and were able to end the game via the mercy rule with 3 in the 5th and 4 in the 6th for an 8-0 victory.

Game 2 Box In Game 2, the Owls rallied for 3 runs on 4 hits to take a 3-0 lead in the 3rd inning. MNU answered with 2 runs on doubles from Jen Polivka, Cait Gardner, and Adriana Asano in the 4th, but William Woods hit a 2-run homer in the 4th to re-take a 3-run lead. Jen Polivka's RBI triple in the top of the 5th got the Pioneers closer, but WWU tacked on one more in the bottom of the inning before torrential rains washed out the remainder of the game.

Jen Polivka (2-3, R, 2B, 3B, RBI), Cait Gardner (1-2, R, 2B, RBI), and Adriana Asano (1-2, 2B, RBI) led the offense.

The Pioneers are 9-6. The next game is a double header at Peru State (16-9) on Wednesday at 2:00.
