Pioneers Split at Ottawa

Game 1 Box | The Pioneers went to Ottawa and split a double header with the Lady Braves. In Game 1, Ottawa scored a single run in the first inning and maintained that lead until the top of the 4th when Jen Polivka's first career homer tied the game. The Pioneers took the lead in the 5th when the Pioneers strung 5 hits together to score 3 runs. Each team scored one more run for a 5-2 final.

Kayla Harris struck out 5 in a complete game for her second victory. And Janessa Swinney (2-4, R), Lynsey Keith (2-4, 2 R, 2B, RBI), Cait Gardner (2-4, 2B, RBI), and Jen Polivka (3-3, R, HR, 2 RBI, BB, SB) led the offense.

 | In Game 2, the Pioneers scored 3 runs on 3 hits and an error in the top of the first, but Ottawa answered with 2 in the bottom of the inning. MNU scored single runs in the 2nd and 3rd to take a 5-2 lead, and the Pioneers led 5-3 heading to the bottom of the 6th. Ottawa then struck for 3 runs on 4 hits to take the lead, but MNU was able to tie the game in the 7th. The Pioneers couldn't send the game to extra innings, however, as Ottawa plated a run with 2 outs to salvage the split.

Janessa Swinney (4-5, 2 R, RBI), Cait Gardner (1-3, R, 2B, 3 RBI, SB), Brittany Williams (2-4, R, SB), and Adrian Brown (2-3, BB) had big games at the plate.

The Pioneers are 4-2. The next games are Saturday in Wichita at the Friends University tourney. Times TBA.
