Pioneers Advance to Round of 8

The MNU Men's Soccer team took their 3rd straight match to penalty kicks. Tuesday night in Montgomery, Alabama the Pioneers advanced to the Round of 8 in the NAIA National Championship tournament.  After two straight defeats in PKs, the Pioneers were able to secure a 4-3 advantage over Olivet Nazarene University and advance to tonight's quarterfinal matchup with Auburn Montgomery University. There was no score in regulation.

Chris Eriksson came up big in the penalty kicks with 2 saves. Kalev Saarna, Aurelien Norest, Matias Fernandez, and Alvaro Beltran all successfully made their PKs for MNU. For the game MNU outshot ONU 22-9, with SOG being 11-2. ONU's goalkeeper, Zach Chambers, was credited with 11 saves. That is the most saves in a Championship match since 2006. Eriksson was credited with 2 saves.

The #15 Pioneers are 12-1-9. The next match is Wednesday vs. 2-seed and #6 Auburn Montgomery (18-3-2) at 6:30.
