Stats | It took longer than expected, but
Trent Remmich finally broke the career goals record Wednesday afternoon at Avila University. His 2 goals moved him past former All-American Justen Wack with 55 goals in his career. Also, with an assist in the game, Remmich is now tied with Wack for total points in a career with 121. After a stellar 26 goals last year, Remmich came into the season only needing 10 goals to match the career mark. In the first 9 games of the season Remmich had already tallied 9 goals and the record seemed to be an afterthought. But, a rough patch of 6 games without a goal followed and the career mark seemed to be in doubt. All of that was laid to rest tonight as Remmich was on form.
His first goal came in the 27th minute off of an assist by
Jeremie Koffi. Trent took a well-placed pass and put a left footed volley into the far corner of the net to put MNU up 1-0. The score line stayed that way through the half. In the second half, MNU looked much sharper and in the 53rd minute they struck again. This time
Eddie Morales struck a beautiful shot from 25 yards out that found the top corner. Remmich and
Tyler Hageman were credited with the assists. Just 10 minutes later, MNU extended the lead with Remmich's second of the day. He took beautiful pass from Morales and beat the keeper with a clinical finish. MNU was not done; in the 68th minute
Matias Fernandez got on the stat sheet with a goal from an assist by
Rodrigo Rivas. MNU was comfortably in the lead with a 4-0 score when Avila's Felipe Garcia was able to score a goal in the 85th minute for a final score of 4-1.
For the game MNU outshot Avila 17-9, with SOG being 9-4. Jesus Revilla was credited with 6 saves for Avila. Chris Eriksson had 4 saves in earning the win for MNU. Avila falls to 6-11 (1-5) on the season. MNU goes to 11-1-5 (4-1-1 HAAC) with just one game remaining. A big game lies ahead this Saturday as Benedictine comes to town for the final HAAC game of the regular season for both teams. Each team will be eyeing a win to potentially win the regular season conference title. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 at Pioneer Field.
