Last year the MNU Men's soccer team went to Park University and were embarrassed in a game that ended up being a 7-3 loss.
Waiting one year for a chance to avenge that loss could have diminished the memory of that night.
Any question of that was quickly answered by the Pioneers this afternoon.
With a final score of 4-0 the boys made a statement that not only did they remember that night but they also wanted to put it in the past for good.
The game got off to a frantic start and in just the first 8 minutes, the Pioneers were up 2-0. Oumar Seck was credited with both goals. On the first goal Oumar redirected a pass from Cam Cundiff and found the bottom corner of the net. His next goal might give the Pioneers another appearance on ESPN's Not Top 10. After chasing down the defender who was near the goal, Oumar had the ball smashed off of his face on an attempted clearance. The ball rocketed back into the net and MNU was up 2-0. MNU's third goal came with just over 6 minutes left in the half. Trent Remmich took an assist from Gyer Vierthaler and scored his NAIA nation leading 17th goal of the season. The Pioneers went into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
Any chance that Park had at the beginning of the second half to muster some confidence was dispatched after just 5 minutes. Rodrigo Rivas finished off a double assist from Aurelien Norest and Michael Shadfar to make the score 4-0. The rest of the game was played at a frantic pace with Park pressuring MNU all over the pitch and the men were content to just see the game off to it's conclusion.
The men now move their season record to 7-3-1. They now move into conference play for the remainder of the season. The HAAC Men's Soccer teams are doing incredibly well this year and the competition for top place is sure to be dramatic. With 4 HAAC teams ranked in the Top 25 NAIA National Poll, the Pioneers will have to be up for the task at hand. Up first is Missouri Valley on Saturday evening in Marshall, Missouri. The Vikings are currently undefeated and ranked #8 in the latest poll. Valley defeated MNU in last year's match by a final score of 3-0. The Pioneers will look to make amends for that loss and get a good start to conference play.
