Remmich's School Record Highlights Victory

5 goals sets new MNU mark

The MNU Men's Soccer team had one of their better performances this afternoon in an 8-2 thrashing of Mt. Mercy (IA). In a game that was briefly delayed due to lightning in the area the Pioneers came out like they were on a mission. Trent Remmich had a stellar day with a school-record 5 goals in the game.

Unlike yesterday's dismall performance the MNU men looked focused and confident from the outset.  They started the route off early with Remmich's first goal coming in the 9th minute off of an Oumar Seck assist. That goal was quickly followed by a Mt. Mercy own goal in the 15th minute of play. Just over a minute later, Remmich had his second of the game from another assist by Seck and the route was on.  The 4th MNU goal came with just 14:47 left in the half. The goal completed a dual hat trick with Remmich on the goal and Seck with his 3rd assist of the game. At this point in the half the game was called for lightning in the area.

After a brief period to let the weather move through the game resumed. This final 14 minutes proved to be a tricky part for the Pioneers as Mt. Mercy scored twice in the remaining time to make the score 4-2 at the halftime break. With the MNU coaching staff giving the boys a firm reminder that the game was far from over the men responded in fine fashion. Just seconds into the second half, Remmich bagged his 4th of the game and MNU was off to the races again. Two minutes later Rodrigo Rivas scored his first goal of his college career with an assist by none other than Oumar Seck. With the score now 6-2 the Pioneers began to control the pace of the game with their possession and ball movement. With 18 minutes left in the game, Luke Pontin dispatched his first of the season with a wonderful finish into the upper 90. The scoring was capped off for the day just 1 minute later as Remmich scored his school record 5th of the game. Chris Eriksson earned the victory in the net with just 2 saves on the day. The victory was Coach Wardlaw's 100th with the MNU program.

MNU move their season record to 4-1. Their next match will feature a road trip to NCAA Division 1 member University of Missouri-Kansas City. The match will take place on Tuesday, September 13th at 7:00 pm at the Durwood Soccer Stadium on the campus of UMKC.
