Remmich's Hat Trick Leads MNU over Bellevue

The MNU Men's Soccer team picked up their first win of the season this afternoon. On a hot, sunny afternoon that took the energy from both teams, the Pioneers were able to muster up enough to earn a 3-0 victory over Bellevue University (NE). The win avenged a 1-0 loss to BU last year up in Omaha, NE.

The Pioneers came out strong and in just the sixth minute of play, Trent Remmich scored his first of three goals to get the game going. He was assisted by Oumar Seck who played a ball across for Trent to slot home at the far post. MNU and Bellevue could not have played any more different styles and it made for an interesting game. With Bellevue preferring the direct approach of play, MNU countered that with a much more possessional game. The Pioneers were able to deal with the direct play and this allowed their possession to slowly break Bellevue down. In the 24th minute Trent finished off a beautiful cross from Cam Cundiff after a good series of passes had gotten him in down the wing. With the score now 2-0 the boys were able to see the rest of the half off.

In the second half things were not that different. Bellevue created chances off of their set pieces and MNU moved the ball and patiently looked for their chances. In the 61st minute, that chance came off of a quickly played ball by Tyler Hageman to Remmich who put it past the goalkeeper for his hat trick. The game ended with no further drama and MNU was able to walk away with a well deserved win. Christopher Eriksson earned the shutout in goal with 4 saves.

“This was a good test for us early in the year,” said Head Coach Kevin Wardlaw. “Bellevue have a very good program and they got the best of us last year. The guys were up for it today and it showed. We will continue to work hard to get better and there are definitely areas that we can work on.”

The Pioneers are off until next Saturday when they will travel to Chicago to take on Judson University and Olivet Nazarene University in a weekend on the road.
