Pioneers Sweep William Woods

The Pioneers swept a non conference double header from William Woods on Saturday. In Game 1, Chelsea Bapst hit a 2-run homer (click to view. mac users may need Flip4Mac) to give MNU a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but the Pioneers would not score again until the tenth. William Woods put a rally together in the fourth and tied the game, and the pitchers dominated the rest of the way. In the tenth inning, both teams were able to bring home the runner placed on second using the international tie-breaker rule. But the game was decided in the eleventh. William Woods scored in the top of the inning, but MNU brought home 2 runs in the bottom of the inning with help from 3 WWU errors to take the game 5-4. Jessica Hull allowed just 1 earned run in 11 innings for her 6th victory. And Chelsea Bapst (3-4, R, 2 RBI, HR) and Jen Costa (2-4, 2B, BB, SB) led the offense.

In Game 2, Kayla Harris earned her 9th victory of the season, allowing just 2 hits in 5 innings as the offense put up 7 runs. MNU scored 2 in the first, 3 more in the second, and 2 in the sixth to complete the sweep. Gale Christner and Jordan Payne each pitched a scoreless inning for the combined shutout. And Tianna George (2-4, 2 R), Jen Costa (2-4, 2 R, 3 RBI), Taylor Ryal (2-3, 2 RBI, SF), Emily True (1-2, 2 RBI, BB), and Keeley Ray (1-2, R, HBP) led the offense.

The Pioneers are 27-8 (9-3 HAAC). The next double header is Tuesday at Benedictine (14-11, 5-5) at 3:00.
