Pioneers Sweep Bethany

The #21-ranked Pioneers improved to 8-0 with a double header sweep at Bethany College on Thursday. In Game 1, the Pioneers jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the fourth inning. But Bethany came back strong with 3 in the fifth. The Pioneers added an insurance run in the top of the seventh, and it was needed as Bethany scored 3 to tie the game. Each team scored a single run in the eighth, but the Pioneers scored another in the ninth and held on for the victory.

Jessica Hull picked up her second win in relief, and Jenny Polivka (2-6, R, RBI), Tianna George (3-5, 2 RBI, SB), Jen Costa (4-5, R, 3B, HR, 2 RBI), Ashley Salter (2-5, RBI), Emily True (2-5), and Chelsea Bapst (2-4, 2B) had multi-hit games.

Game 2 ended after 6 innings via the 8-run rule. After the Pioneers scored single runs in the first and third, they broke it open with 4 in the fifth and 2 more in the sixth. Kayla Harris moved to 3-0 with 5 shutout innings, and Jenny Polivka (1-2, 2 R, 2 SB), Jen Costa (1-2, R, HR, 2 RBI, SF), Taylor Ryal (3-4, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI), Ashley Salter (2-3, R, 2B, BB), Alexis Folkerts (2-3, R, HR, 3 RBI), and Emily True (2-3) led the offense.

The Pioneers are 8-0. The next contest is a triple header at Oklahoma Wesleyan on Saturday starting at noon.
