MNU was a busy place on Saturday with homecoming games in Football, Women's Soccer, and Men's Soccer. The Men's Soccer team finished off the afternoon with a win over Central Methodist. This win capped off a great day at MNU as both Football and Women's Soccer were able to gets wins as well.
MNU came out in the first half and controlled play from the beginning. Both teams were a bit reserved in taking chances but as the half went along the game began to open up. MNU's first really good chance came off of a long clear that was played by
Trent Remmich, he passed to
Oumar Seck, who inadvertently had the ball bounce of his heel and directly into the path for Remmich who ripped an incredible shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net. This proved to be the only goal of the game.
At halftime, the MNU family honored this year's seniors.
Oumar Seck,
Michael Shadfar, and
Cam Cundiff were escorted to half field by family and were recognized for their contributions to the MNU program over the years. The second half saw MNU waste several very good opportunities to see the game off. “We had chances to put this game away,” stated Coach Wardlaw. “The guys did a great job of staying focused and getting the win despite the misses.” The last few minutes were a tense affair as CMU put everything forward in an attempt to get the equalizer.
With the win, the Pioneers are now 9-6-1 on the season and 2-3 in conference. Their next game is on the road at #16 ranked Benedictine College on Saturday, October 29th.
