MNU and Baker went toe to toe tonight in Baldwin City, KS at Liston Stadium in a classic Heart of America Conference match. A game that is always hyped in this incredible conference lived up to its pre-game billing. After a full 90 minutes and then two 10-minute overtime periods the game was declared a draw at 1-1.
Baker got on the board early with a goal in the 13th minute off of a long throw in. MNU had a few chances in the next few minutes but Baker was very dangerous on all of their long throw ins and set pieces. The game then took a turn when one of Baker's players was given a straight red for a reckless tackle with 6 minutes remaining in the half. The half ended with MNU dominating possession but not really creating much in the attacking third. The second half was an ugly affair with Baker a man down and doing everything they could to make the one goal lead stand, and the game never really was given a chance to develop. MNU kept pushing and with just one minute remaining in the game Felipe Guimaraes scored off of a rebound from a set piece that Matt Gow put into the area. Baker then missed the net by a narrow margin with just seconds remaining off of a set piece. In the overtime periods MNU had 2 great chances to take the win but could not capitalize. The game ended with a 1-1 score line.
For the game BU outshot MNU 19-11 with SOG being 8-6 in BU's favor. Corner kicks were 5-3 in BU's favor. Baker's GK was credited with 5 saves. Matt Gow had 7 saves for MNU. Baker moves to 6-3-2 on the year and 2-1-1 in conference. MNU moves their record to 5-4-1 and 0-1-1 in conference. MNU will next play at home on Thursday, October 7th at 4:15pm against Culver-Stockton College.
