The MNU Men's Soccer team picked up their second conference victory this afternoon with a 6-3 win over Central Methodist University in Fayette, MO. The Pioneers move their conference record to 2-2-1 with the victory.
The guys started fast with 2 goals in the first five minutes.
Taylor Esparza scored the first goal and
Trent Remmich scored the second with assists going to
Felipe Guimaraes and
Michael Shadfar. In what seems to be a recurring theme, the game took a turn when CMU scored 2 unanswered goals in the 7th and 13th minute to tie the game at 2.
Oumar Seck then scored a brace with goals in the 39th and 40th minutes. His 2 goals that were scored just 50 seconds apart came off of a PK and a double assist from Esparza and
Cody Maupin. That made the score 4-2 going into the half.
In the second half the men were able to control the game a bit better. In the 58th minute
Luis Padilla scored a goal after a beautiful sequence that ended with Remmich playing the ball across the box for Luis to finish. In the 66th minute Trent got his second assist as he played the ball across the box for Guimaraes to tap in. That made the score 6-2. CMU scored on a free kick in the 68th minute for the final tally of 6-3.
For the game CMU outshot MNU 15-14 with SOG being 8-8. Corner kicks were 4-1 in MNU's favor. CMU's goalkeeper was credited with 2 saves.
Matt Gow for MNU was credited with 5 saves including a save on the first PK of the year given up by MNU. CMU's record falls to 5-7-1, and 0-5 in the conference. MNU moves their record to 7-5-1 on the year. The next game is homecoming and senior day on Saturday, October 23rd at 3:30pm against Graceland University.
