Dru Wheatcroft is a native of Winfield, KS and has been an assistant coach for the Lady Pioneers since the 2017-2018 season. Dru has also coached for the Eclipse, a premier non-profit girls AAU club team in Kansas City, since 2011. Through the Eclipse, Wheatcroft has coached girls that are now playing at all levels of collegiate ball. Dru was one of four finalists for the Community for Coaches 2018 KC Metro Coach of the Year.

In his playing days, Wheatcroft was a Kansas 5A all-state selection in high school and helped lead his teams to two state tournament appearances. He went on to play collegiately, first at Emporia State University and then at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. At ESU, Dru got to learn from Hall of Fame coach Ron Slaymaker and then played for another Hall of Fame coach, John Sheehy, at JBU. In his senior season at John Brown, Dru’s teammates voted him as the recipient of the Charles A. Thomas hustle award after playing the last month of his career with a fractured jaw.

In his high school and college careers combined, Dru averaged shooting 46% from three-point range and 90% from the free-throw line. He has been giving private and group shooting lessons for years and has also run several shooting camps. Dru brings a knowledge of the recruiting process from all angles and will help with the guard play and shooting.

Dru is currently a loan officer at Mutual Savings Association in Leavenworth, KS and lives in Shawnee, KS.
