Kary Kankey is in her 2nd season as an assistant coach for the Pioneers. Kankey works with the infield and catchers, assists with recruiting, and handles travel arrangements.
Prior to MNU, Kankey spent five years as the Head Softball Coach at Norfolk State University and five years as the Head Softball Coach at Defiance College. At NSU, Kankey coached 12 all-conference players and led the Spartans to one MEAC regular season runner-up finish and one conference tournament championship appearance.
During her stint at Defiance College, DC finished runner-up in HCAC play twice, captured two HCAC tournament championships, and earned the program’s first two post-season appearances and first-ever NCAA tournament win. Kankey coached 13 all-conference players and was named HCAC Coach of the Year twice.
Kankey majored in sports management and graduated from the University of Dayton in 1998 where she was a four-year starter at catcher and shortstop, and earned 1st-Team Atlantic 10 honors as a senior. She also has her master’s degree in Sports Administration from Bowling Green State University.
Kankey lives in Liberty, MO with her husband Jason and their two sons Ryan (8) and Justin (5).
