Neil Novak joined MNU as defensive coordinator for the Pioneers in 2019. In his first year as defensive coordinator, the Pioneer defense saw improvements in multiple statistical categories. Coach Novak also coaches the defensive backs. He mentored Chris Hannible, who was a 1st team All-Conference selection.
 
Prior to MNU, Coach Novak spent two years at Division II powerhouse Northwest Missouri State University. He worked with the defensive backs & assisted with special teams during his time with the Bearcats. He coached in three Division II playoff games during that span. He mentored Marcus Jones who received 1st team All-America after the 2017 season.
 
Novak got his start in college coaching at his Alma Mater, Black Hills State University where he coached the safeties for two years. He mentored Drew Hebel to multiple All-America awards and was part of the programs first winning season since moving up to Division II.
