Clayton Brandt began his coaching career at MNU in the Spring of 2017. He was a player under Coach Thompson for 3 seasons (2013-2015) after transferring from NCAA Division II, Ouachita Baptist University. Playing shortstop during is time at MNU, he was a part of the 2014 team that won a conference title for the second time in program history and helped lead the team to their 1st National Tournament appearance in program history. Following the 2014 season, he returned and helped lead the team to a second National Tournament appearance. In his first-year coaching, he was a part of the 2017 team that appeared in their 3rd National Tournament.

As a player, Clayton appeared in 146 games, hitting a career .370 with 38 doubles, 13 triples, 17 home runs, 99 RBI and 82 Stolen bases. In 2013, Clayton was a 2-time Conference Player of the Week and was selected 2nd-team All-Conference Shortstop. In 2014, Clayton was a 2-Time Conference Player of the Week and was selected 1st-team All-Conference Shortstop. In Clayton’s senior season (2015), he set the MNU single season stolen bases (41) and career stolen bases (82) record. He also led the nation with 81 runs scored. He was named Conference Player of the Year and 1st-team NAIA All-America.

Following his 2015 Season, he was selected in the 2015 MLB Draft by the Washington Nationals in the 19th Round. Brandt signed and played 2 years in the Nationals Minor League System. He was selected as the 2016 MVP for the Auburn Doubledays, a member of the New York Penn League where he also set the New York Penn League record for fielding percentage as a shortstop (.979%) putting together a streak of 27 games without committing an error.

After is 2nd year of professional baseball, Clayton decided to voluntarily retire from the game as a player and begin his coaching career at his alma mater at MNU.
