OLATHE, Kan. – MNU earned its first win of the season with a 3-0 shutout of Bellevue on Saturday at Pioneer Field. The Pioneers scored once in the first half and twice after halftime while limiting the Bruins to just two shots on goal.
Caleb Brueckner opened the scoring in the 16th minute. Pedro Vian set up the play, and Brueckner finished at 15:45 to give MNU a 1-0 lead.
MNU nearly doubled the advantage early in the second half when Elyes Ellouz hit the crossbar in the 48th minute. The Pioneers continued to apply pressure, and Vian made it 2-0 at 57:07 off an assist from Amaro Piaggio.
Jordan Gaona provided the final goal in the 72nd minute. Paul Vingtrois assisted on the play as Gaona scored at 71:53 to extend the lead to 3-0.
MNU finished with an 11-10 advantage in shots and put five attempts on goal compared to two for Bellevue. The Pioneers also held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks. Wilson Del Cid made two saves in goal to record the shutout.
Vian led the MNU attack with a goal and an assist, while Brueckner and Gaona each scored once. Piaggio and Vingtrois added assists. Vian recorded two shots on goal, while Brueckner and Gaona each put their only attempt on frame.
Turning Point
MNU carried a 1-0 lead into halftime, then put the match away early in the second half. After Ellouz hit the crossbar in the 48th minute and Vian had a shot saved at 53:00, Vian broke through at 57:07 off a feed from Amaro Piaggio to give the Pioneers a two-goal cushion.
