SIOUX CITY, Iowa – #10 MNU's season came to an end in the Round of 16 of the NAIA National Tournament with a 75-53 loss to #1-ranked Dordt on Thursday night.
The Pioneers came out ready to compete and battled evenly with Dordt in the opening quarter. MNU shot over 50 percent in the 1st period, staying within one possession most of the quarter before trailing just 18-17 at the break.
The 2nd quarter remained tight early, as MNU briefly took the lead and continued to trade baskets. However, Dordt began to create separation late in the half. The Defenders closed the half on a strong stretch to take a 32-27 lead into halftime.
Dordt took control late in the 3rd quarter. After an Aubrey Rogers triple cut the deficit to 6, Dordt buried 3 three-pointers in a row to push the lead back to 15.
In the final quarter, Dordt continued to pull away. MNU struggled to find consistent offense, shooting under 20 percent in the period, while the Defenders capitalized on second-chance points to extend the margin. Dordt closed out the game with a 20-11 advantage in the 4th to secure the 75-53 victory.
Turning Point
Dordt's 9-0 run late in the 3rd created a hole too big to overcome.
