Pioneers Beat Waldorf and Hastings

Shawnee, Kan.  – MNU turned in a strong Saturday showing, sweeping a pair of games with a 5-1 win over Waldorf and a 5-2 victory against Hastings.

In Game 1 vs. Waldorf, MNU broke open a scoreless game with a 4-run 3rd inning and never looked back in a 5-1 win over Waldorf.

After two quiet innings, the Pioneers erupted in the third. Danica Hobbs and Brie Manwarren each singled to spark the rally, and Molly Nicas drove in the game's first run with a single to center. Senne Imel followed with an RBI single, Maddie Call added another run-scoring hit, and Dakoda Hobbs capped the inning by reaching on an error that allowed Imel to score, giving MNU a 4-0 cushion.

Waldorf pushed across its lone run in the 4th on a sacrifice fly, but MNU answered in the 6th. Manwarren doubled and later scored when Lailah Simmons roped a double to center, stretching the lead to 5-1.

Manwarren was outstanding in the circle, tossing a complete game. She allowed just 4 hits and 1 run while striking out 4.

Game 1 Turning Point
The 4-run third was enough.

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Brie Manwarren (3-4, 2 R, 2 2B) led the offense and earned the complete-game win in the circle. Danica Hobbs (2-4, SB), Senne Imel (2-3, R, RBI) and Maddie Call (2-3, RBI) contributed multi-hit efforts.

In Game 2 vs. Hastings, MNU used a 5-run surge across the 5th and 6th innings to pull away for a 5-2 victory.

Hastings struck first with solo home runs in the 3rd and 5th innings, taking a 2-0 lead. The Pioneers responded emphatically in the bottom of the 5th. Andi Clements singled to ignite the rally, and Dakoda Hobbs followed with a hit to put two aboard. Danica Hobbs delivered an RBI single to cut the deficit in half, and Brie Manwarren crushed a 2-run homer to swing the momentum and give MNU a 3-2 lead.

The Pioneers added insurance in the 6th. Senne Imel doubled to center and later scored on an RBI single by Andi Clements. Dakoda Hobbs then doubled to right to drive in another run, extending the advantage to 5-2.

Game 2 Turning Point
Brie Manwarren's 2-run home run in the fifth erased a deficit and put MNU in front for good.

Mandy Brown earned the complete-game win with 9 strikeouts. And Danica Hobbs (1-3, R, RBI), Brie Manwarren (1-3, R, HR, 2 RBI), Senne Imel (1-2, R, 2B, BB), Andi Clements (2-2, 2 R, RBI), and Dakoda Hobbs (3-3, 2B, RBI) led the offense.
