BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – A second-half surge carried #13 MNU to a 4-1 conference-opening victory at Baker on Saturday night.
After conceding in just the second minute, the Pioneers regrouped. Bella Leon leveled the match with a 34th-minute strike, and then MNU dominated after halftime. Luna Etienne put the Pioneers ahead in the 52nd minute, Maddie Lalman added insurance in the 58th, and Meredith Veer capped the scoring in the 87th off a Jasmine Alcantara assist.
MNU outshot Baker 18-7 and peppered Wildcats goalkeeper Sophia Holloway with 15 shots on goal. Holloway made 11 saves, but the Pioneer attack proved relentless. On the other end, goalkeeper Anna Pace made two saves to notch her first win of the season.
Turning Point
Etienne's go-ahead strike early in the second half shifted momentum fully to MNU, setting the tone for a three-goal half.
