ATCHISON, Kan. – No. 20 MNU women's soccer earned its fourth straight conference win, topping Benedictine 3-1 on the road Wednesday. Behind a brace from Tindra Jarl and a stout performance from goalkeeper Fiona Popetschnig, the Pioneers continued their strong start in Heart play.
Jarl opened the scoring in the 28th minute with an unassisted strike before doubling the lead just seven minutes later off a feed from Thayline Teixeira. Benedictine clawed back with a goal early in the second half, but MNU quickly responded. In the 68th minute, Lilja Lidstrom finished off a cross from Luna Etienne to put the match out of reach.
Popetschnig was a wall in net, recording nine saves while facing 16 Raven shots. The Pioneers' back line absorbed pressure late but kept Benedictine from mounting a comeback.
Turning Point
Lidstrom's goal in the 68th minute restored a two-goal cushion just five minutes after Benedictine had pulled within one, sealing momentum firmly in MNU's favor.
