Pioneers Fall to #5 OKWU to Close Season

PENSACOLA, Fla. – #21 MNU's postseason run came to a heartbreaking end on Monday afternoon, falling 1–0 to #5 Oklahoma Wesleyan on a goal early in the second half. Despite mostly controlling possession and providing a great defensive effort, the Pioneers couldn't find the equalizer against one of the nation's top teams. 

The match unfolded as a tight, physical battle from the opening whistle. MNU and Oklahoma Wesleyan each generated limited chances, with the Pioneers' best look coming in the 34th minute when Luna Etienne forced a save. MNU's back line kept Oklahoma Wesleyan's attack largely in check, allowing just one shot on goal before halftime. 

But momentum flipped just moments into the second half. At 45:59, a cross into the box glanced off a head and into the net, putting the Eagles ahead 1–0. From there, MNU pushed forward with increasing urgency, but OKWU turned aside every attempt. 

Goalkeeper Fiona Popetschnig delivered another composed performance for MNU, recording three saves—two in the final 25 minutes—as Oklahoma Wesleyan sought to protect its lead. A lightning delay briefly halted action in the 74th minute, but the Pioneers returned with renewed energy, creating pressure until the final whistle.
