OLATHE, Kan. - MNU narrowly secured a dramatic 78-77 win against CMU in a closely contested battle on Wednesday. Neither team could buy a 3-pointer in the first half, combining to shoot 1-28 in the first half. But MNU held a 7-point lead at the break. The shooting improved in the second half, and the game opened up in to a back-and-forth affair. The Pioneers led by 9 with 14 minutes left, but the Eagles went on a 9-0 run to tie it. A 3-pointer with 5 minutes left gave CMU a 5-point lead, but a personal 5-0 run from
Gary Clay tied it again. The Eagles held a 3-point lead in the final 30 seconds, but a clutch deep shot from
Joe Buchanan tied it. CMU took a quick shot on their ensuing possession, and
Gary Clay was fouled on a drive and hit the first free throw to give MNU the lead. CMU couldn't get a shot off in the final second, and MNU came away with the win.
