Pioneers Split at Mt. Mercy

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Pioneers split a double header at Mt. Mercy on Friday. In Game 1, MNU scored in the top of the 2nd by loading the bases with no outs. Dez Duncan was hit by a pitch and Cordelia Hanger walked for a 2-0 lead, but Mt. Mercy did the same in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. The score remained 2-2 until the top of the 7th, when Nyah Brown singled home 2 runs and eventually scored on a wild pitch for a 5-2 lead. Starter Mykala Johnico finished the 7th, and MNU took Game 1.

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Mykala Johnico struck out 5 in a complete game victory. And Cordelia Hanger (2-2, R, 2B, RBI, 2 BB), Nyah Brown (1-4, R, 2 RBI), Alli VanLanker (1-3, R, BB), and Emma Jones (1-2, R, 2 BB) led the offense.

In Game 2, Mt. Mercy took advantage of a few walks to score 3 in the top of the 1st, then exploded for 7 in the 2nd to take a huge lead. The Pioneers managed single runs in the 2nd and 3rd, but fell 10-2 in 5 innings.
