Pioneers Sweep Statesmen

OLATHE, Kan. - The Pioneers swept a double header from William Penn on Saturday. In Game 1, MNU rallied for 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st with RBIs from Nyah Brown and Robin Todd, but Penn battled back with a game-tying double in the top of the 3rd. The Statesmen took the lead with a 2-out triple in the 4th, but MNU made a comeback in the bottom of the 6th. Abby Schulte led off with a single and Robin Todd tied it at 3 with a double. Alli VanLanker gave MNU the lead with another double, and Dez Duncan drove home 2 more with the inning's third double and a 6-3 lead. Penn scored 1 in the 7th, but the Pioneers held on to win 6-4.

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Hannah Etzel pitched 3 innings of relief for the win. And Cordelia Hanger (2-4, R, 2 SB), Robin Todd (2-3, R, 2B, 2 RBI), Alli VanLanker (1-3, R, 2B, RBI), and Dez Duncan (2-3, 2 2B, 2 RBI) led the offense.

In Game 2, William Penn scored on an error in the top of the 1st, but that's all they would get. In the bottom of the 3rd, Madison Gallivan, Dez Duncan, and Cordelia Hanger singled to load the bases with no outs. Nyah Brown and Kelly Stoakes recorded RBI singles, and MNU took a 3-1 lead. Hanger and Alli VanLanker recorded RBIs in the 4th and 5th, and starter Grace Berlage kept WPU off the board the rest of the way for a 5-1 victory.

MNU's 3-run 3rd put them ahead for good.

Grace Berlage struck out 6 in a complete game 4-hit victory. And Cordelia Hanger (2-4, R, 2B) and Alli VanLanker (1-2, R, BB) reached base twice.
