Pioneers Split at Bethany

LINDSBORG, Kan. - The Pioneers split a double header at Bethany on Saturday. In Game 1, MNU took a 4-0 lead in the top of the 2nd, but the Swedes rallied for 5 runs in the bottom to take the lead. The Pioneers tied it in the 4th, and each scored 2 more for a 7-7 tie heading to extra innings. MNU scored 2 in the top of the 8th, but Bethany used 3 singles to bring home a run and load the bases with no outs. A grand slam followed, and the Swedes won 12-9.

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Abby Schulte (2-4), Robin Todd (2-4), Dez Duncan (3-4, 3 R, RBI), Alli VanLanker (3-4, 3 R, 3 2B), and Brie Manwarren (2-2, R, 2B, 5 RBI) had multi-hit games.

In Game 2, MNU scored in the 1st on an Abby Schulte single, but Bethany tied it in the bottom of the 3rd. In the top of the 5th, a Kelly Stoakes sacrifice fly broke the tie, and a Schulte RBI double followed for a 3-1 lead. In the top of the 6th, a Nyah Brown 2-run single and a Schulte bases-loaded walk made it 6-1, and starter Grace Berlage finished the 6-1 victory.

MNU's 2-run 5th put them ahead for good.

Game 2 Individual Leaders
Grace Berlage struck out 4 in the complete game win. And Cordelia Hanger (2-4, 2 R), Nyah Brown (3-4, R, 2 RBI), Abby Schulte (2-3, 2B, 3 RBI, BB), Alli VanLanker (2-4, R), and Gracie Bishop (2-4, 2 R) led the offense.
