Trevino Sets Wins Record in Sweep at OKC

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Starting pitcher Zach Trevino recorded his MNU-record 23rd career victory in the first game of a double header sweep at Oklahoma City on Friday. The senior, in his 3rd season at MNU, surpassed Marty Atnip (93-96) with 10 wins in each of his 2 seasons and a 3-0 start to 2024. In Game 1, the Stars scored with a 2-out single in the bottom of the 2nd, but Trevino shut them down the rest of the way. In the top of the 3rd, a Drew Woodley RBI triple was followed by a Brycen Sherwood RBI single, and MNU took a 2-1 lead. The Pioneers rallied for 3 runs in the 6th and 1 more in the 7th, and a Brentt Olmo incredible catch led to a game-ending double play and a 6-1 victory.

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Zach Trevino struck out 6 in 6 innings for his MNU career record-breaking 23rd victory. Reece Helland struck out 1 in an inning of relief. And Drew Woodley (1-3, R, 3B, RBI, BB), Kristian Krespo (2-2, RBI, BB), and Kaden Owens (2-2, RBI, Sac) led the offense.

In Game 2, OCU scored a run in the bottom of the 2nd, but the Pioneer pitchers allowed nothing more while the offense tried to come back. MNU was held scoreless until the 6th when Brycen Sherwood led off with a double and Kaden Owens singled him home to tie the game. In the top of the 8th, Drew Woodley led off with a double, and Noah Castillo drove him home for a 2-1 lead. The Stars were retired in order in the bottom of the inning, and the Pioneers won 2-1.

Adam Gray struck out 4 in 5 innings in a no-decision. Kristian Hurtado struck out 2 in an inning of relief. Bryce Brecklin earned the win with 2 innings of hitless relief. And Drew Woodley (2-4, R, 2B), Noah Castillo (2-4, 2B, RBI), and Willy Borquez (2-3) had 2 hits apiece.
