OLATHE, Kan. – MNU triumphed in an overtime thriller against Grand View, securing an 86-78 victory on Saturday evening. The first half was tight throughout, and Grand View went to the locker room leading by 2. The Vikings had the better of play for most of the second half, and MNU trailed 68-58 with 6 minutes to play. The Pioneers chipped away, but still trailed by 6 with 2 minutes to play. Joe Buchanan hit a pair of free throws, then buried a 3-pointer to tie it with 48 seconds left. Neither team could convert in the final seconds, and the game went into overtime.
GVU started the extra period with a bucket, but Shane Stevenson answered with a 3 to give MNU the lead for good. Malachi Bryant hit 2 free throws for a 3-point lead, and Buchanan nailed another clutch 3 to keep MNU ahead. With 30 seconds left, Gerard Bosch pushed the lead to 8 with a 3-pointer, and MNU held on to win.
Turning Point
Trailing by 10 with 6 minutes left in regulation, MNU went on a 28-10 run to erase the deficit and dominate overtime.
